NOT SPRING YET

GETTING ABOUT A LB. OF GREENS A WEEK RIGHT NOW
IF YOU WANT TO COME TO THE FARM FOR DRIED HERBS, MINTS, DRIED HOT PEPPERS -- LOOKING TO GET GREENS YOU HAVE TO LET ME KNOW I HAVE A LIST FOR THE GREENS TILL THEY ARE COMING IN BY THE POUND I HAVE TO ROTATE WHOM GETS GREENS EACH WEEK

I USUALLY HAVE EXTRA SEEDLINGS AND SEED I OFFER IN THE SPRING

MORE GREENS ARE COMING ALONG IN THE GREEN HOUSE

SOME SMALL TOMATO PLANTS ARE PUSHED UP AND
SWEET ONIONS ARE A COUPLE INCHES NOW

I AM STARTING SEED EVERY WEEK FOR THE SUMMER PLANTING AS MANY OF THE VEGETABLES EVERYONE LOVES NEED A MUCH LONGER WARM SEASON THEN WE HAVE HERE IN NE OHIO

I WILL MOST LIKELY BE EXTENDING THE 2010 MEMBERSHIPS BY A MONTH AS NOTHING WOULD GROW THIS WINTER

LAST WINTER I HAD POUNDS OF GREENS - JUST WOULD NOT GROW THIS YEAR
IT WAS PLANTED AND CAME UP BUT SAT THERE NOT GROWING MORE THAN AN INCH
THAT IS A FARMING RISK AND MORE SO WITH THE FACT THAT I DO NOT USE CHEMICALS OR ELECTRIC IN THE GREEN HOUSES

I TRY TO BE AS SUSTAINABLE AS POSSIBLE AS WELL AS IT IS NOT COST EFFICIENT TO RUN ELECTRIC OR GAS IN A GREEN HOUSE UNLESS YOU ARE LARGE SCALE WITH A GOOD PAYING LARGE SCALE BUYER

THOUGHT I WOULD PASS ON A FEW TIPS WHILE I HAVE THE CHANCE
NOT A LOT OF PRODUCE TO LIST HERE YET
MANY HERBS AS WELL AS MINTS MAKE GREAT TEA AND
GOOD FOR THE BODY AND SOUL IN YOUR BATH WATER
DRIED PRODUCE OF ANY TYPE SHOULD BE KEPT AIR TIGHT IN A COOL DARK PLACE

IF YOU LIVE WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH SPACE FOR PUTTING UP FOOD FOR THE WINTER
DRYING IT COULD BE YOUR ANSWER
YOU CAN DRY ANYTHING AND YOU CAN GRIND IT OR LEAVE IT WHOLE AND REHYDRATE IT WHEN YOU WISH TO USE IT
(This year i not only did herbs, greens and mints i dried Broccoli, cauliflower)

EGGS SHOULD BE KEPT AT A TEMP. OF 45 OR COOLER THEY CAN BE KEPT FOR WEEKS RAW IN THE SHELL
EGGS ARE MADE OF A LOT OF WATER SO THEY WILL SHRINK SOME WITH STORING
IF YOU HARD BOIL YOUR EGGS THEY WILL NOT KEEP AS LONG AS RAW
IT IS GOOD PRACTICE TO WASH YOUR EGG OFF BEFORE CRACKING IT OPEN AS THEY ARE LIKE MELONS THE GERMS STAY ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE SHELL WHEN YOU CRACK IT OPEN YOU ALLOW THE GERMS A WAY IN

MELONS WHEN YOU CUT THEM IF YOU HAVE NOT WASHED THEM FIRST YOU DRAG THE GERMS IN WITH YOUR KNIFE
(People even here in the USA die every year from germs dragged in on a melon)

REASON SOME PLACES WILL ONLY SERVE FULLY COOKED EGGS IS THAT COOKING THE EGG KILLS ALL GERMS

"NOW WHEN YOU BUY STORE BOUGHT EGGS THAT SAY 'PASTEURIZED' THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE BEEN OUT ON THE PASTURE EATING GRASS AND BUGS
IT MEANS PASTEURIZED LIKE MILK THEY SHOT A FAST SMALL SHOT OF HOT LIKE STEAM INTO THE EGG

IF YOU ARE NEW MEMBERS PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO MAKE IT TO THE FARM OR SEND AN ORDER WITH YOUR GROUP EVERY WEEK

MAIN SEASON IS JULY THROUGH SEPT.

ALL OTHER MONTHS DEPEND A LOT ON THE WEATHER WHAT THERE WILL BE AND HOW MUCH
VARIETY OF PRODUCE IS MORE LIMITED IN THE OFF MONTHS AS WELL

YOU CAN GET IN BULK I DO GIVE A CUT IN PRICES WHEN YOU BUY FOR PUTTING UP FOR THE WINTER - WILL HAVE A PRICE FOR

PECKS (usually 20% off), 1/2 BUSHELS (usually 30% off) & FULL BUSHELS (40% off)
