Green House is starating to look alive

AT LAST WITH THE EXTRA SUNSHINE
THE LETTUCE LOOKS ALIVE, HAVE SPROUTS UP
ENDIVE, SWISS CHARD, GREEN ONIONS, BOK CHOY, SPINACH, BEETS
NOW LET'S HOPE WE HAVE MORE SUN THIS MONTH AND THEY KEEP GROWING
HAVE THE SOIL UP TO A STEADY 70 Deg.
GREENHOUSE AIR TEMP. NIGHT TEMP. 40 AND UP TO AS MUCH AS 85 DEG.

SOME LITTLE FACTS/POINTERS FOR THE SUMMER WHEN SEASON REALLY GETS ROLLING

YOU CAN PUT UP ALL VEG., FRUIT, BERRIES, HERBS FOR WINTER USE
EVERY THING CAN BE DRIED IF YOU LIKE TAKES UP LESS ROOM CAN REHYDRATE WHEN YOU WISH TO EAT IT, (NO Electric needed to store it) CAN BE GROUND AND USED THAT WAY EVEN VEGETABLES. GROUND IS GOOD USED IN SOUPS, BREADS, SALADS IN OR ON ANYTHING FOR FLAVOR.

MOST EVERYTHING IS GOOD FROZEN -
MOST VEG. YOU HAVE TO BLANCH FIRST EXCEPT PEPPERS, ONIONS, GARLIC, LEEKS, CHIVES. SWEET CORN IS GREAT FROZEN RIGHT ON THE COB, JUST PULL THE SILK OFF (as the silk is mess when you thaw out the corn) PUT IN A FREEZER BAG DONE. YOU CAN HUSK AND COOK ON THE COB, CUT OFF THE COB OR ROAST IN THE HUSK, WHEN YOU WANT TO EAT IT.
BASIL AND CHIVES ARE BEST FROZEN MANY WAYS OF DOING THEM YOU CAN ALSO MAKE BASIL VINEGAR WHICH YOU CAN THEN USE THE BASIL AS WELL AS USE THE VINEGAR ON YOUR SALADS. (You can do that with most any herb). BERRIES ARE BEST FROZEN AND CAN BE DRIED.

FRUIT WE LIKE BEST CANNED OR DRIED
TOMATOES CAN ALSO BE FROZEN AS WELL AS CANNED OR DRIED. IN A HURRY WASH CUT OFF BAD SPOTS & STEM LEAVE WHOLE OR CUT UP AND BAG AND FREEZE TILL YOU ARE READY TO USE THEM THEY ARE GOING TO BE SOFT SO YOU WILL WANT TO USE THEM FOR COOKING OR MAKE YOUR SAUCE OR SOUP TO CAN.

GREENS CAN ALSO BE FROZEN OR DRIED

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE LEAF OF THE BROCCOLI AND THE STEMS ARE GREAT TASTING AND FULL OF GOOD NUTRITION. CAN CHOP IT ALL UP TOGETHER AND STEAM OR STIR FRY OR DO LEAVES MIX WITH OTHER GREENS. THE LARGER STEMS YOU MAY WANT TO PEEL THE TOUGH OUTER SKIN WILL PULL RIGHT OFF.
CAULIFLOWER THE LEAF IS GOOD TO EAT MAKE CHIPS OR SOUP STOCK.
TRY SOMETHING NEW DO A LITTLE TO SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT. DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING NEW, MAKE UP YOUR OWN DISH. NO RULES ON HOW YOU COOK OR EAT JUST SEE WHAT YOU LIKE.

ONIONS (all type), LEEKS, GARLIC, RAMPS, CHIVES ARE OF ALL THE SAME FAMILY AND EVERY PART IS EDIBLE - ROOTS, STEM, LEAF, FLOWERS, SEEDS SO FROM TIP TO TIP AT ANY STAGE THEY ARE GOOD TO EAT. EACH PART HAS A LITTLE DIFFERENT TASTE SOME PARTS ARE STRONGER THEN OTHERS AND OF COURSE THE WEATHER CHANGES THE FLAVOR, THE DRIER AND HOTTER THE SEASON
THE STRONGER FLAVOR THEY WILL HAVE.

BERRIES ARE NOT ONLY GOOD IN A BOWL OF MILK, CEREAL, COOKING DESSERTS, AND IN SMOOTHIES ARE GOOD IN TEA ALSO.

LOOK UP YOUR HERBS
ALL HERBS ARE GREAT FOR TEA, SOME ALONE SOME MIXED TOGETHER AND EACH HAVE SOMETHING THEY ARE GOOD FOR, FOR YOUR HEALTH. I HAVE MADE A TEA THAT HAD THYME AND A FEW OTHER HERBS, GINGER FOR COLDS USING HONEY IT WAS GREAT TASTING AND SEEMED TO HELP US ALL THAT YEAR.
(of course I like using the elderberry/honey mix a few spoons full a day when we fill a cold or flue coming on or being exposed more then usual)
YOU CAN ALSO USE MINTS AND HERBS DIFFERENT ONES FOR DIFFERENT EFFECTS IN YOUR BATH WATER. I LIKE THE MINTS.

THIS TIME OF THE YEAR MORE THEN ANY I MAKE SURE TO ADD VINEGAR TO MY DISH WATER AS WELL AS WIPE THE COUNTERS, CUTTING BOARD AND DOOR HANDLES WITH IT. IS A GREAT GERM KILLER AS GOOD AS BLEACH AND BETTER. (DO NOT use vinegar on marble as it will break the marble down). I USE baking soda for my scrubbing does a great job on anything and will not scratch anything like comet and other cleaners do). TOUGH SPOT ON YOUR PANS USE SOME BAKING SODA TO SCRUB ADD A FEW DROPS OF VINEGAR ON IT AND IT WILL BUBBLE UP AND HELP YOU WORK AT SCRUBBING.

I HOPE YOU ALL ARE ENJOYING THE PRODUCE YOU HAVE PUT UP THIS YEAR FOR THE WINTER.

I HOPE THIS SPRING WHEN WE HAVE THE CSA MEMBER DAY AT THE FARM POT LUCK THE STRAWBERRIES ARE IN. USUALLY SOME GREENS, HERBS, CUT FLOWERS AND RHUBARB ARE IN THEN.

GOT MY ORDER TOGETHER FOR THE SWEET PEPPERS, HOT PEPPERS, OKRA, EGGPLANT, TOMATOES (paste, slicers & bite size).
