Raw Cheese is now ready

Starting Sunday Barb will have raw cheddar available from the Middlefield Cheese Coop. They have not given her a price yet, but she is picking it up Saturday.

Raw cheese is made from milk that has not been pasturized so it is full of vitamins and co-factors that you will not find in pasturized milk. The "Price Factor" founded by Weston A. Price and noted for its ability to help the body absorb minerals has just been identified as the fat-soluble Vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 protects against tooth decay, supports growth and development, is involved in normal reproduction, protects against calcification of the arteries, and is a major component of the brain. K2 works synergistically with Vitamins A & D which also are mostly destroyed with pasturization (the synthetic Vitamin A palmitate and Vitamin D3 do not work in our bodies the same as the original vitamins that were destroyed). If you are not able to find raw milk, raw cheese is you next best option to get these lost vitamins into your diet.

Mad Dash before the first Freeze!

The weather has turned and now Barb has to prepare for the first frost. She will be picking all the rest of the produce that will be killed by the frost: peppers, tomatoes, herbs...so now is the time to put in that last big order. Barb will be selling 1/2 bushels of tomatoes (about 20 pounds) for $13.00. Generally all produce is a little cheaper when ordered by the peck or bushel (A bushel is equivalent to 9.3 Gallons and there are 4 pecks to a bushel). This would also be a good time to try making some Fried Green Tomatoes, one of my favorites.

Pie Pumpkins

Pie pumpkins are now available! These are the smaller type perfect for baking and using in place of canned pumpkin in your favorite recipes.

Beeswax Candles
These are hand made by Barb’s sister from her own beehives. She cleans the wax and uses all cotton wicks (which are harder to work with). Some have colored wax added for the colored types. No scent is added and the candles naturally have a wonderful beeswax smell. Beeswax candles burn cleaner and longer then the average wax candles.
